Adam Schiff for Senate

John,

The “Summer Slump” is something campaigns face every year. School’s out for the summer, the weather is nice, people head out on vacation, and our fundraising numbers always take a dip.

It’s a phenomenon we’ve come to expect! And let’s be clear — we still want you to go on vacation. But can we explain why the “Summer Slump” is such a big deal? First, the campaign fell short of hitting our goals in August, putting us in a worse position than we were anticipating heading into the fall. This affects our ability to do three critical things:

  1. Respond to the attacks: In just two weeks, Donald Trump will be in California at the GOP convention. He’s bound to attack Adam, and we need to ensure our message isn’t drowned out by his.

  2. Reaching voters: The latest poll has over 1/3 of voters in this race still undecided. Every dollar we raise and every hour our volunteers dedicate during the "Summer Slump" allows us to reach more voters with our message. While others may be taking a break, we're committed to connecting with as many people as possible, sharing our vision, and earning their trust.

  3. Early Investment: The funds we raise now allow us to plan in advance for when things really ramp up. The very dollars raised from this email have a ripple effect on the campaign's success down the road. Investing in our campaign during the "Summer Slump" ensures we have the resources and infrastructure in place to seize opportunities and respond effectively as the election approaches.

The goals we set aren’t arbitrary. Our organizing program, digital ads, heck — even the ability to get buttons and yard signs for Adam’s thousands of supporters across the state — depend on how much we raise from emails just like this one.

This would be one of the worst times for us to miss a fundraising goal. John, chip in $3 or anything you can spare toward our $75,000 weekend fundraising goal to help us defeat the summer slump.

This is the most challenging stretch yet of our campaign — and the most critical.

It has been a relentless summer of GOP attacks on Adam, and we have to respond. Chip in $3 before midnight to help reach our FEC deadline goal.

Thank you,

Team Schiff
