The Houma Navigation Canal—and all the critical industries that depend on it—continues to support not only America’s offshore energy exploration and production but also the shipbuilding vital to our national defense.

This month, I was proud to see our efforts pay off with the recent signing of an agreement between federal and state partners to advance the Houma Navigation Canal Deepening project. This marks an important step forward to deepen the Houma Navigation Canal, increasing the canal’s ability to strengthen our national and energy security.

The Houma Navigation Canal is a critical national asset that serves as an important waterway for shipbuilding activities that support the U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Navy, National Marine Fisheries Service, and the National Science Foundation at locations along the channel. Additionally, fabrication and service work for offshore energy development occurs along the channel.

Louisiana families are sick of the inflation and needlessly high energy costs under this administration. I met with leaders from Louisiana’s energy industry recently to talk about action we can take to produce more energy here at home.

We discussed my efforts to fight the Biden administration's recent legally-questionable decision that will put nearly twenty percent of our nation’s domestically-produced oil and natural gas at risk and deliver yet another blow to American families and small businesses that will continue to drive up energy prices and hurt our economy.
