Last month, my daughter celebrated a major rite of passage in our culture: her quinceañera.

Watching her dancing with her mom, I realized how wildly different the world she’s entering into than the one her mom and tías did.

When I take my daughter to the State Capitol for “Bring Your Kids To Work Day,” she looks around and sees the halls of power filled with women.

From the State House and Senate, to the Supreme Court and Governor’s Mansion, women run every branch of New Mexico’s government.

For so long women and people of color have been excluded from the conversations that decide our futures — but because the Democratic Party has invested in electing leaders who look and live like their communities, our daughters are growing up in the world we dreamed for them. It’s pretty exciting.
