Governor Glenn Youngkin held a Parents Matter conversation this week in Leesburg, where he gathered with the community in Loudoun County to discuss his commitment to put parents back at the head of the table in their children’s education and upbringing.  Youngkin was joined by Juan Pablo Segura, who is running to represent Loudoun County in Virginia’s 31st Senate District.  The conversation in Leesburg centered around raising standards of excellence in Virginia schools, addressing mental health challenges facing students, keeping children safe online, and protecting young people from dangerous drugs like fentanyl.  

Last weekend, Governor Youngkin attended the 40th anniversary of the Festival of India in Richmond to foster a greater relationship with the Indian community and recognize the many business owners and community leaders that make Virginia the best place to live, work, and raise a family. 

On Sunday, Governor Youngkin joined Shannon Bream on Fox News Sunday to discuss the status of education in Virginia, America, and restoring parental rights.

Governor Glenn Youngkin and First Lady Suzanne S. Youngkin recently hosted “A Celebration of Virginia Arts” at Wolf Trap National Park.  The evening reception acknowledged the vitally important role the arts have in Virginia.  Influential Virginia art supporters, Virginia Commissioner for the Arts Margaret Hancock, and Secretary of Education Aimee Rogstad Guidera also attended.  Following the reception, the Governor and First Lady presented the Richmond Ballet Lifetime Achievement Award to Carmen de Lavallade, who was one of 4 principal dancers from the original 1959 cast of Carmina Burana.  

The Youngkins then enjoyed two spectacular performances by the accomplished Richmond Ballet.  The evening ended with a masterful collaboration of Carmina Burana by the Richmond Symphony and Chorus, City Choir of Washington, and Wolf Trap Opera artists.

Additionally, the First Lady attended a productive Sisterhood reception in Northern Virginia, where more than 180 women and girls participated.  The joyful event included hearing from Secretary of Education Aimee Rogstad Guidera on the state of education in the Commonwealth.  It was also an opportunity to engage with impactful, female-led nonprofits that are successfully meeting the needs of vulnerable Virginians.  The First Lady continues to place a high priority on highlighting critical work for VA Women+girls in the areas of well-being and workforce preparedness.  

On Wednesday, Governor Youngkin and the First Lady of Virginia stopped to read to kids at Pleasants Lane Elementary in Petersburg. The Youngkin administration is taking further, aggressive action to ensure all Virginia students get the academic support they need to recover from learning loss and boost their attendance and academic performance. 

This week, First Lady Suzanne S. Youngkin announced the second installment of the Art Experience at the Executive Mansion called “Do What You Love in Virginia.”  Expanding on the project’s first installment, this second iteration highlights the pastimes, places, and people that are enjoyed and adored by Virginians and visitors alike. 

The new installment features 19 institutions, 12 individual artists, and 6 private lenders from each region of the Commonwealth with diverse backgrounds and artistic talents.  Artwork and featured pieces include fabric displays, oil and acrylic canvas portraits, photographs, magazine covers, leather ornaments, and more from across the Commonwealth’s expansive landscape. 

These featured artwork and artifacts span centuries, bringing to life Virginia’s unique and continuously evolving story. Under the First Lady’s direction, the Art Experience has nearly doubled both in the number of works as well as participating art partners, boasting over 75 pieces from 37 institutions and artists across the Commonwealth.
