In the two days since Republican Budget Chairman Jodey Arrington leaked his plan to slash Medicaid and create a closed-door process to destroy Social Security and Medicare, Social Security Works members have sent thousands of petition signatures and hundreds of calls to their members of Congress.
This is important―and we have to keep up the fight.
When Republicans announce their plans to raid our earned benefits, Social Security Works leaps into action. We launch rapid-response campaigns to nip these plans in the bud. It’s a bit of a game of whack-a-mole because even when one Republican feels the heat and backs off, another will emerge in a few months.
But Rep. Arrington’s threat is particularly dangerous because it’s tied to the Republican threat to shut down the government at the end of the month. We have two weeks to protect Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security.
