Recently, we joined several other leading organizations in the anti-trafficking movement for Teach Trafficking Truths Day. Watch the recording on Instagram to hear Love146 leaders Aria Flood and Erin Williamson discuss why prevention is so important, the difference between prevention and awareness, how prevention looks different in different communities, and how parents/caregivers can start conversations about this issue and stay safe with children in your care.

For these remarkable young survivors, attending college isn't just about textbooks and lectures; it's about building a future free from trafficking and exploitation. And our work doesn't stop as they step onto campus. We don't send them off and close the case. As you can imagine, being a freshman in college brings vulnerabilities to exploitation. So our commitment remains strong through this major life transition. And we’ll continue to support them for as long as they need us.

Over the coming year, Love146 is hosting events around the US. Join in for heavy hors d'oeuvres and a signature cocktail, an inspiring gallery of photography from youth in our survivor care, a chance to hear from Love146 leaders about our impact, and an opportunity to support work to end child trafficking.
We'll be sharing more very soon about when and where we'll be. But until then, be sure you get relevant updates by letting us know what region you live in. ([link removed])

Human Trafficking is NOT inevitable. Last month, we loved connecting and thinking together with leaders in the field at the Office on Trafficking in Persons National Human Trafficking Prevention Summit in DC. Our Director of Prevention Education, Aria Flood, presented about how to build the capacity of schools to prevent human trafficking. This work takes collaboration and collective will - thank you to everyone who traveled and gathered together to build community and shared knowledge.

Thousands of young people in Connecticut are not actively participating in the workforce. Love146's Employment and Education Program is working to change this by providing these survivors of child trafficking with the skills and resources they need to find jobs. The program also helps to address the trauma that many of these young people have experienced, which can make it difficult for them to find and maintain employment. By providing trauma-informed care, Love146 is helping these young people to overcome their trauma and become successful in the workforce.

10 years ago, many of our team and supporters read a book called “Lost Girls” about unsolved murders on Long Island that victimized several women, including a victim of trafficking. On behalf of all the victims and their families, we’re glad to finally see the Gilgo Beach killer arrested. These women were not disposable; they were loved ones and human beings that deserved much more. In this article, the author of that book, Robert Kollker, acknowledges important realities that this case brings up:
They were only “lost” insofar as we — the police, the media, the social safety net — elected to lose them, by deciding they were worth discarding. Serial killers understand this, of course. Jack the Ripper targeted the women he did for presumably the same reason that the Green River Killer and Joel Rifkin said they did: These were women they believed no one would ever go looking for. And more often than not, sadly, they were right.”
