Tell Congress: Support a pathway to citizenship for DACA recipients and all immigrants!: Earlier this week, a federal court again ruled that DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) is unlawful. The decision dealt another blow to hundreds of thousands of people who came to the United States as children. It’s also a reminder that only legislation—not litigation—will provide permanent protections for DACA recipients and millions of other immigrants in the U.S. Urge Congress to take action today!
Border Patrol is once again holding migrants between border walls without access to basic services: The agency held migrants in similarly inhumane conditions for weeks in May. It only stopped that practice after the Southern Border Communities Coalition—which includes AFSC—filed a federal complaint. Today, AFSC, partners, and community members are again providing emergency aid to migrants through the border barriers, as we did in May. That includes water, food, blankets, medicine, diapers, and menstrual pads. We plan to remain on site until Border Patrol stops holding migrants in the area. (KPBS)
Register for our next No Way to Treat a Child campaign webinar (Sept. 19, 12 noon ET/ 9 a.m. PT): In Palestine, students living under Israeli military occupation face daily challenges. In parts of the West Bank, schools are often located near Israeli military training zones, where Israeli forces fire live ammunition, tear gas, and other weapons. And in the past few years, Israeli authorities have ramped up efforts to demolish more Palestinian schools. In this webinar, we’ll discuss these issues as well as how we can advocate for Palestinians’ right to education.
Speak out for conscientious objectors in Ukraine and Russia: Thank you to everyone who contacted the Biden administration to support conscientious objectors in Ukraine, Russia, and around the world.
