Fellow Conservative,

This week has been an active week on the Hill. From the announcement of a formal impeachment inquiry into President Biden, to the ongoing spending debate, to Key Votes holding Congress accountable, this week has seen several twists and turns.
Ten Percent for the Big Guy
On Tuesday, Hunter Biden was indicted in federal court on three gun-related criminal counts. The very next day, Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy officially opened an impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden to further investigate the mounting evidence of corruption from this administration. During this inquiry, the House will investigate various allegations against President Biden, including claims that he secured illicit payments for his son Hunter from a variety of foreign businesses, took a cut of the money for himself, accepted bribes from foreign energy companies, and pressured the Ukrainian government to fire a prosecutor who was investigating a company tied to his son.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg…

The American people deserve to know the truth about the Biden family’s corruption and elected officials should use all tools available to uncover the facts and bring accountability to Washington.
KEY VOTE: Stop the Spend Trend
This week, inflation numbers were released and unsurprisingly “Bidennomics” continues to wreak havoc on Americans’ paychecks. In August, inflation was 3.7% <[link removed]> higher than it was 12 months ago, which in turn was 8.2% <[link removed]> higher than it was 12 months before that.

Everyday products are becoming less affordable with the price of gas up 54%, flour 34%, poultry 25%, dairy products 24%, baby food and formula 25%, pet food 24% rent 17%, and vehicle insurance 34%.

All of this means that 61% of Americans are now living paycheck to paycheck. <[link removed]>

This inflation comes from out of control federal spending which now totals just under $33,000,000,000,000 in national debt! Yet the Senate’s most recent attempt to pass a “minibus” - a bill that merges three spending bills into one - continues this unsustainable trend.
To hold Congress accountable, Heritage Action issued a Key Vote <[link removed]> in opposition to this minibus if it is brought to the Senate floor. Fortunately, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) blocked a procedural hurdle necessary to package three appropriations bills together. His efforts reflect the reality – despite the recent news media spin – there is no consensus in the Senate on government funding. This move also demonstrates that House conservatives have support in the Senate to address both policy and spending level concerns in the bills. If these three bills are ultimately packaged together, how elected officials vote on this minibus will either improve or decrease their score on our Heritage Action Scorecard <[link removed]> which tracks Congress’ voting record of key bills.

Congress must get America’s fiscal house in order and return our country to economic stability.
You Car is Next
As if there wasn’t enough pressure, Biden is trying to eliminate gas powered cars which would not only restrict your choice to purchase a gas vehicle, but also make these vehicles more expensive. Biden’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has created a loophole that would allow California to impose a sales ban on combustion engines by 2035.

Because of California’s outsized market share in the automotive industry, this would artificially force car manufacturers to shift production dramatically in favor of electric vehicles (EV) leaving consumers with fewer quality affordable options especially as other states follow suit.

Thankfully, Representatives John Joyce (PA-13), Gus Bilirakis (FL-12), Bob Latta (OH-15), and Jay Obernolte (CA-23) introduced H.R. 1435 to prevent the EPA from allowing this sales ban to take effect. The bill passed the House this week, sending the measure to the Senate.

But it doesn’t stop there. Biden’s National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a regulation that would raise fuel efficiency standards to an almost impossible level: 66 mpg average for passenger cars and 54 mpg for pick-up trucks.

The cost of this aggressive Fuel Rule will be passed on to you in the form of higher car prices, fewer vehicle options, and lower quality vehicles. Find out why >>>HERE <[link removed]>

This Fuel Rule is subject to a period of public comment until October 16th. This means that anyone can submit a comment in opposition and the NHTSA must offer a written response addressing every unique comment submitted before it can enforce the rule. With enough comments, the rule can be canceled altogether, or even overturned in a court of law.

The Human Cost of an Open Border
Biden’s open border policies are affecting the lives of millions of Americans. While the media doesn’t want to tell these stories, The Daily Signal’s <[link removed]> new documentary highlights the story of Elisa Tambunga who lost her mother and 7-year-old daughter to the reckless driving of a human smuggler.

The Biden Administration’s open-borders agenda not only undermines the rule of law, but threatens national sovereignty, economic security, and public safety. Congress cannot simply continue to fund the flood of illegal aliens this administration is ushering into America every day.

This week Heritage Action joined a coalition of over a dozen organizations and experts to call for a rapid resolution to the open border crisis by urging members of Congress to address this issue in the appropriations process. The current fiscal year expires on September 30th at midnight. Congress has until then to appropriate funding or endure a government shutdown.

This will force Congress to face a clear and unavoidable policy choice: secure the borders by including necessary border security and immigration policy reforms in this year’s funding bills or continue to fund the Biden Administration’s intentional, man-made crisis.

Sentinels have worked to lay the groundwork for this pivotal moment by engaging elected officials and urging the successful passage of H.R. 2 - Secure the Border Act. Call your members of congress and urge them to include H.R. 2 in the upcoming funding measures.
