September 2023

Dear John

We’re excited to share that the results of Hedgelife Help Out
[[link removed]] are in!

Back in May, we asked you to check in on the health of your local hedgerows as
part of the Big Help Out [[link removed]] , a volunteering initiative to mark the King's coronation. Not only did this
prove to be a great success with over 2,100 submissions, but the vast majority
of you also found it great for your wellbeing and for feeling more connected to
nature. Scroll down to find out more!

The House of Lords recently voted through an important amendment to the
Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill which marks a huge win for local communities.
This is in no small part thanks to your ongoing support and pressure on the
government – more on this below. This week they also voted down the government's plans to relax nutrient neutrality
[[link removed]] , which will help ensure our countryside and rivers are protected from further
pollution.

As the summer draws to a close and autumn approaches, our countryside and green
spaces are experiencing plenty of change. Nature writer Alexandra
Pearce-Broomhead shares what wildlife you might find while out and about!

THE RESULTS OF HEDGELIFE HELP OUT ARE IN!
We were delighted with the enthusiasm that so many of you showed in taking part
in our inaugural 'Hedgelife Help Out' in May. We wanted to create an accessible
citizen science project that not only gave us some insight into the state of
hedgerows across the country, but also helped people connect with nature. We’re
now pleased to report the top line results from the survey - click on the button
below to find out more.

A WIN FOR LOCAL COMMUNITIES
In a huge step forward for local communities, the House of Lords recently voted
through an amendment that ensures both the public and parliament have a say on
any new national planning policy created by the Levelling Up and Regeneration
Bill. When the Bill returns to the Commons in October, there will be a chance to
ensure this scrutiny amendment becomes part of the final legislation. Read more
about this news below.

ASK YOUR MP TO BECOME A ROOFTOP SOLAR CHAMPION
The climate emergency is the biggest threat currently facing our countryside.
But we’re overlooking a common sense solution that reduces our emissions,
slashes energy bills and spares land for nature all at once: rooftop solar. Ask
your MP to support the expansion of rooftop solar across the country by clicking
on the button below.
