In just a moment, I'm going to ask you to make a $3 contribution to my people-powered re-election campaign for Congress. Before I do, I'm hoping you'll give me a chance to explain why your support is so important — especially today.
Here's the situation:
September is an especially important month for our campaign, and a major reason for that is the official FEC fundraising deadline we're facing when it ends. We've written to you about these deadlines before, but I mean it when I say that this one is a big one.
Once this deadline passes, we're legally required to report our fundraising numbers for the year so far.
That means disclosing the amount of money we've raised, and how many individual contributions make up that total. Publicly. For everyone to see. Good or bad, no matter what.
I can guarantee you that once our FEC report is filed, our opponents — the right-wing super PACs, our primary challengers, the media — will be pouring over the receipts to see how we're doing.
The reason for that is simple — they want to know if it's worth pouring millions and millions of dollars into Minnesota this election cycle to try and defeat us again. They want to know if there's blood in the water, or if our movement stands stronger than ever.
That's why your support is so important. Especially this month. We don't want our opponents to like what they see, and the only way we can make sure of that is if we're all in this together. So please:

When I think of the many, many reasons I'm so proud of the movement we've built together, one of them is the way we fund our campaigns.
