Hello Friends,
Experts forecast that Hurricane Lee will pass by New Hampshire on Saturday on its way up the east coast toward Maine. Ahead of the storm reaching our state, local officials are urging caution to keep families safe. The storm is expected to bring strong winds and heavy rain for parts of New Hampshire – there are steps you can take today to prepare and stay safe.
|
Ahead of the storm hitting New Hampshire on Saturday, you can prepare: - Have food and water, medications, flashlights, chargers, and identification documents stocked and stored safely. There is a chance some communities lose power during the storm, and it may take a while for emergency crews to reach everyone.
- Sign up for alerts on the FEMA app, listen to local officials, and evacuate if asked to.
- Make sure you and your family have an emergency evacuation plan in place.
- Text, don’t call – in the event of severe damage, networks are busy. Texting leaves lines open for emergency personnel.

I continue to carry the lessons and values from my father, Malcolm, to this day.
|
My father was a fighter pilot during WWII and flew 63 missions in a P-47 Thunderbolt. In a dogfight during the Battle of the Bulge, he was shot down and spent the next six months in a German POW camp until being liberated by Allied Forces on V-E Day. It took me years to understand the deep impact my father’s experience had on his life and on my family. But it was through his stories that I came to understand the courage, resilience, and sacrifice of veterans and military families across our great nation. Today, on National POW/MIA Recognition Day, we remember the thousands of American service members who are still missing and unaccounted for and recommit ourselves to never give up hope to bring them home.

I will always fight to lower costs for our seniors.
|
This week in the Energy and Commerce Committee, I spoke about the need for Congress to take action to expand access to generic drugs to help address current medication shortages and lower drug costs. Generic drugs make up nearly 90% of prescriptions in the U.S. – but too many barriers prevent patients and doctors from reliably accessing the medications they need. I introduced bipartisan legislation to expand generic drug options for Medicare Part D beneficiaries and stop abuses of the patent system to bring safe, low-cost medications to patients. These bills will help to expand access and lower costs across the board, a win-win! I urge my colleagues to support this legislation to address the root causes of drug shortages and ensure patients can access affordable, lifesaving care. You can learn more about these bills here.

Local journalism makes our communities safer and stronger.
|
From school closures to town updates, breaking news, and weather reports, local news outlets keep people informed about what’s happening in their communities.
In the new video-first media environment, these outlets face new challenges to stay in business and reach interested consumers. We need to make it easier for trusted local news organizations to do the important work of informing the public and ensure everyone can access local news and reporting.
This week, I advocated for this and more in the Energy and Commerce Committee. You can learn more about my work to defend local broadcasters here.

Substance use disorder doesn’t care about your politics – neither should our policies to address it.
|
Also, this week, the Bipartisan Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Task Force held a training on how to administer naloxone and to highlight the importance of this life-saving medication. Access to overdose-reversal medication can mean the difference between life and death for thousands of people across the country. Together, we can reduce the stigma around substance use disorder and improve access to treatment and recovery services to help save lives. You can learn more about the Task Forces’ training and work here.

We all have a role in ensuring New Hampshire remains a safe, welcoming place to live and raise a family.
|
Earlier this week, I was honored to join Rabbi Robin Nafshi, Senator Becky Whitley, community leaders, and law enforcement in Concord to discuss the recent rise in incidents involving hate speech and threats targeting members of our community.
Hate has no place in our state. I’m proud to see Granite Staters rise up and speak honestly about how we can address threats and protect our neighbors. If you have experienced a hate crime, reach out to your local police department, the NH Department of Justice, or the FBI to report it.

PREVENTING OVERDOSE DEATHS: Overdose-reversal medications can mean the difference between life and death – that’s why it is so critical we ensure these medications are accessible and affordable. I’m thrilled to see vital medications like naloxone stocked on shelves and available over the counter.
