'I Voted' sticker in honor of National Voter Registration Day [[link removed]]
National Voter Registration Day is on Tuesday, September 19! By 2028, Millennial and Gen Z voters will be more than 50% [[link removed]] of all eligible voters. And in 2022 alone, over 960,000 people became newly naturalized citizens. That means young New Americans—people like YOU!—are set to change the political system, making our voices heard like never before!
If you’re eligible, visit the website for National Voter Registration Day [[link removed]] to see if you’re already or registered or sign up today. Democracy needs us!

Late Wednesday, Judge Hanen of the U.S. District Court once again ruled against the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program (DACA), threatening the lives and livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of DACA recipients and their families. Although the current decision allows for renewals to continue, it now moves to the Fifth Circuit Court, which has already ruled against the program in the past.
These political games can't be allowed to continue. We need Congress to act NOW and create permanent protection for DACA recipients, their families, and our communities.

United We Dream DACA decision graphic [[link removed]]
Last year, the Fifth Circuit decided to partially halt DACA and returned the case to Judge Hanen of the U.S District Court of the Southern District of Texas for review of the new DACA rule proposed by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Now Judge Hanen ruled against DACA and called to terminate the program, again.
DHS will continue to process renewals and Advance Parole applications . First-time applicants can submit their applications, but DHS will NOT be able to process them.

And Updates
This week we welcomed José Galarza as our newest NAL Team member! As a Johnson Justice Fellow [[link removed]] , José will serve as our New York Regional Program Manager and aid us in cultivating the next generation of New American leaders. Born and raised in the Bronx and with roots in Puerto Rico, his upbringing fueled his passion for creating change. He has been involved in various electoral campaigns and was a camp counselor the past two summers. And if he looks familiar, that's because he is already a member of the NAL fam! José previously worked with our C4 affiliate, New American Leaders Action Fund, on our vote tripling effort to help New Americans in the Bronx make their voices heard.
During his first week, he's already hit the ground running with other members of the Johnson Justice Fellowship, including a discussion with NALpista and New York City Council Member Amanda Farias! Please join us in wishing José a happy first week and welcoming him to the team! 🎉
