Dear John,
Congress has returned to D.C. in the face of a potential government shutdown, a budget debate, and so much more.
It's simple. We have work to do.
That's why I'm proud that the first bill I introduced as a member of Congress was the No Budget, No Pay Act. This bill says that if members of Congress don’t do their jobs and pass a budget on time, they shouldn’t get paid. Grocery store clerks, truck drivers, and teachers don’t get paid if they don’t do their jobs – and neither should members of Congress.
Unfortunately, partisanship and special interests often get in the way of a responsible budget that addresses our debt and makes smart investments to help everyone get ahead. We can’t in good conscience keep burying our children and grandchildren under a mountain of debt.
I will keep you updated in the coming weeks as negotiations in Washington, D.C. continue. In the meantime, I encourage you to keep reading below for a few highlights from the August district work period in Sacramento County.
Be well,
Ami Bera M.D.
