Did you know that Oklahoma ranks third in the nation for wheat production? I had a productive meeting with the Oklahoma Wheat Grower Association (OWGA) this week, discussing the wheat industry and their priorities for the 2023 Farm Bill. While recent droughts have reduced wheat crops in the western Oklahoma, our farmers continue to persevere and provide for their communities and our state. Thank you to OWGA for your time.
It’s back-to-school season! Oklahoma is home to 64 public charter schools with an estimated 80,000 students in attendance. Thank you to Barry Schmelzenbach, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Public Charter School Association for coming by the office this week. We discussed how charter schools positively strengthen our state’s education program and the importance of the Charter School Program in educating and equipping the next generation of Oklahomans.
This week, I met with the American Farmers and Ranchers cooperative (AFR) to discuss their Farm Bill priorities and increased agricultural competition. AFR works on behalf of small agricultural producers across the state, and I appreciated hearing about their efforts to keep agriculture a top priority.
