Hope you're enjoying the cooler weather...   Washington, D.C. - After a hot and dry summer, I hope you are enjoying the rain and cooler Texas weather! Before heading back to Washington, I hosted a roundtable with small business owners from across North Texas to discuss the various regulations and challenges holding their businesses back. In response to these concerns which are shared by many Texas small business owners, I've introduced the Small Business Regulatory Reduction Act to slash some of the red tape making it harder for Main Street to survive. Then, I met with the Richardson Chamber of Commerce to provide an update on my work in Washington. It was great to hear from local leaders about their priorities and opportunities to work together. My last stop before returning to D.C. was Enhabit Home Health & Hospice to meet with Barb and Andrew. Home health and hospice providers play a critical role in taking care of our loved ones. I'm working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to improve our system. On Wednesday, I had an informative meeting with North Texas jewelers to discuss issues facing their industry, including a surge in jewelry-related crimes and supply chain challenges. I also met with Texans from the LIBRE Initiative. We had a great discussion about freedom-minded policy solutions to get the federal government out of the way. Thanks for stopping by our D.C. office. Next, on Thursday I enjoyed speaking with North Texans from Teach for America. Their dedication to empowering and educating the next generation shone through. It was great to hear about their work to improve our community! It was great to see Grace Speese, the Farmers Branch Chamber President, in D.C. this week! We discussed various challenges facing local businesses in our district. I look forward to continuing the conversation with the full chamber in Farmers Branch in November. Texas-24 Work of the Week The SBA and Biden administration have failed to demand accountability of the rampant fraud in pandemic lending programs. This week, my colleagues and I took action. I’m pleased that my bill to streamline the fraud reporting process was unanimously advanced by the House Committee on Small Business! Texas-24 Hometown Hero This week’s Texas-24 Hometown Hero is the Grapevine High School wrestling team! On the 22nd anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks, the team hosted a Tribute Climb. I would like to thank the Grapevine High School wrestling team for uniting the community and honoring the heroes of this day. Congressional Youth Advisory Council REMINDER: The deadline to apply for our 2023-2024 Congressional Youth Advisory Council is September 22nd! This is a unique leadership opportunity for students interested in the federal government and public policy. It’s always one of my favorite programs, it’s impressive to see how much our students learn and grow throughout the year! To learn more or apply, please click here. TX-24 Veteran Commendation The Congressional Veteran Commendation has been created to honor the distinguished veterans around the country and in TX24 and to preserve their stories for future generations of Americans. Veterans who are nominated must live in the 24th District of Texas (you can check here) and have served our nation with honor consistent with the finest traditions of military service. The nominated veterans must also have served their community as a civilian. Click here to complete and submit the nomination packet no later than October 13, 2023 at 5pm. Rep.
