Today marks the start of Hispanic Heritage Month – a time to celebrate independence across Latin America and pay tribute to the culture and history that have made us who we are.

As a proud Latina, Hispanic Heritage Month represents an exciting time for myself and my family. I was raised by immigrant parents from Mexico who taught me the values of hard work, dedication, and community. It’s because of them that I dedicated my career to fighting for working families – a fight I continue to this day.

This month, I’d like to send a heartfelt thank you (¡unas porras!) to the Latino community across the US, working tirelessly to provide for their families and making it possible for their children to do the same.

It’s been a difficult few years, and I know we’ve got work to do. That’s why I’m working every day to deliver solutions to working families across the country by improving access to affordable healthcare, lowering costs, and strengthening labor rights. I’m also committed to enacting comprehensive immigration reform with a path to citizenship to ensure families can stay together.

I am so incredibly grateful for the Latino community that has made the US thrive.
