I support opening an impeachment inquiry into President Biden. September 15, 2023 Opening an Official Impeachment Inquiry into President Joe Biden I support opening an impeachment inquiry into President Biden. In addition to creating the worst border crisis in history, the allegations and proven record against the President involving an influence-peddling scheme are outrageous and have rightly concerned millions of Americans. This Congress has exposed serious wrongdoing - it is now time to formalize our investigation to fight Democrat stonewalling and a partisan Department of Justice. I take no pleasure in this announcement. This is not a partisan exercise but a solemn constitutional duty. Blocking Biden's 'Remain-in-Texas' Policy It's not a coincidence that the Biden Administration began considering a 'Remain-in-Texas' policy the same week that New York City Mayor Eric Adams openly criticized the chaos at our border and stated that the migrant crisis 'will destroy New York City.' This week I introduced legislation to block the creation of any 'Remain-in-Texas' policy. Liberal sanctuary cities like New York that openly obstruct federal immigration laws and have policies in place to shield criminals from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) should not be immune to the crisis at our border. Biden’s Remain-in-Texas policy must remain in the trash can. I will fight any efforts by this administration to force Texans to bear the brunt of their immigration crisis. Biden Electricity Official Doesn't Know How Much Electricity the U.S. Needs A top priority for the Energy and Commerce Committee this Congress is ensuring American families have access to reliable, affordable, and efficient energy sources and home appliances. An unreliable grid has consequences across our lives and the entire economy. In an Energy and Commerce hearing this week, I questioned Gene Rodrigues, Biden's Assistant Secretary of the Office of Electricity, about how much electricity the United States uses annually. The electricity official for the President could not answer how much electricity our country needs or even how much he pays for electricity each month. I assured him that every person in Texas-11 knows that their electricity bills have doubled under this administration. To watch his shocking omission, click here or below. The President is Funding Our Adversaries in the Middle East On the anniversary of 9/11, the Biden Administration announced a hostage deal with Iran to unfreeze $6 billion and free five Iranian nationalists who were in prison. Iran is the largest state sponsor of terror in the world—headquartering Al Qaeda and providing them financial and operational support. This tone-deaf exchange is another prime example of how the Biden Administration refuses to stand up for America. Protecting Your Freedom to Drive a Gas-Powered Car Yesterday, the House Passed H.R. 1435, the Preserving Choice in Vehicle Purchases Act, which prevents the EPA from imposing new regulations that would ban sales of new motor vehicles with gas-powered internal combustion engines. Last year, California enacted new requirements on automakers effectively banning the sale of new gas-powered cars and light trucks by 2035 and limiting consumer choice in new vehicles to electric vehicles. The House voted in a bipartisan fashion to reject California’s failed and expensive green energy mandates from spreading to the rest of the nation, invest in liquid fuels to restore American energy independence, make gas affordable again, and secure our energy future. Electric vehicles are not for everyone. Just ask Secretary Granholm how her recent road trip in an EV went. Spoiler alert: the cops were called. I spoke on the House floor in support of the legislation. Click here or below to watch my full remarks. Standing up for the Second Amendment I joined my colleagues in introducing a House Resolution to condemn New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham for her “emergency public health order” that prohibits the open and concealed carry of firearms in Albuquerque and its surrounding county, including city sidewalks and parks. Violators of this order may face civil penalties and fines up to $5,000. This order is a direct attack on New Mexicans’ Second Amendment right, and the resolution is a formal condemnation from U.S. Congress. House Republicans have a message for the Governor: The Constitution is absolute. Our resolution makes it clear to the Governor that her executive powers cannot override the Constitution of the United States or the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans. Honoring the Fallen on 9/11 When we look back on September 11, 2001, and think about the goal of those who carried out the horrific acts, it was to defeat the spirit of America and the very red, white, and blue that our flag stands for. They couldn't have made a worse miscalculation. On that day we showcased the very best of America. It didn't matter what political party you ascribed to, what language you spoke, or what religion or color you were. We were all red, white, and blue that day. That's the kind of country that I know we can be. I was proud to join the San Angelo Fire Department at their 9/11 memorial service alongside Mayor Gunter, Chief Brody, Judge Carter, Chief Frank Carter, Lt. Colonel Carroll, and so many others. To all of the communities around Texas-11 who honored and remembered September 11th this week—thank you. We will never forget. Blocking the Biden Administration from Controlling Free Speech I introduced legislation this week with Representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene and Ronny Jackson to protect free speech and ban the Department of Homeland Security from forming a Disinformation Governance Board. Partisan government officials running a 'disinformation board' sounds ridiculous to most people, yet the Biden Administration tried to control the speech of American citizens. My legislation ensures that absolutely no federal dollars can be spent setting up another board to attack free speech. DHS should be focused on securing the border and preventing terrorist attacks, not fact-checking social media, and censoring Americans. The legislation was featured in the Washington Examiner.
