Friend,
For the first time in United Auto Workers history, the union is going on strike against all three of the Big Three auto manufacturers in the United States simultaneously: Ford, General Motors and Stellantis (formerly Chrysler). The UAW’s “stand up strike” is a reference to the historic sit-down strike in 1937.
As union members, we know that the labor movement is the engine of the middle class and keeps the wheels on our democracy. We support UAW members as they strike for fairness and opportunity. Click here to show your support.
Since the auto industry bailout in 2008, autoworkers have sacrificed to save their companies and keep our economy driving forward. Now, car companies are making record profits but leaving their workers in the dust.
This strike is targeted collective action to put pressure on Ford, General Motors and Stellantis to come to the table. What the workers are asking for is reasonable: restoring cost-of-living adjustments and fair pay, ending the tiered system of employment so that equal work receives equal pay, job security, safety in the workplace, and a just transition to electric vehicle production.
Whether you’re a teacher, a healthcare professional, a public employee, a professor, a school support professional or an autoworker, we’re all fighting for the same things: Fairness. Justice. Opportunity.
We stand with our UAW siblings as they fight for a fair contract. Let’s drive the message home and show the Big Three automakers that it’s time to come to the table and negotiate. Click here to sign the petition.
In unity,
Randi Weingarten
