Dear Friend,

This week, we returned to Capitol Hill and I wanted to provide an update on the work we are doing in Congress for Maryland's First District and our Country.  Let's dive in:

Passed legislation blocking the Biden Administration from banning gas and diesel-powered vehicles.

This week, we passed the Preserving Choice in Vehicle Purchases Act which prohibits the Environmental Protection Agency from allowing states to implement rules that directly or indirectly ban the sales of vehicles with internal combustion engines.

The majority of vehicles owned by Americans have combustion engines so banning them would be a disaster for hard working Americans. Hard-working Americans, not Washington bureaucrats and their liberal allies, should be able to decide what cars best suit their needs and this legislation would protect that choice.

Addressing Washington's Reckless Spending:

After years of reckless spending, the U.S. debt is now more than $32 trillion and the federal budget deficit will explode to $2 trillion this year - after Biden said it would decrease. Short-term spending patches and failure to follow the regular budget process are digging the U.S. into an even deeper financial hole. Our national debt is a major threat to our national security, and Congress must act to end the reckless spending.

Just this week, the Consumer Price Index revealed inflation rose to 3.7% in August. Hard-working Americans are struggling to make their paychecks last as long as they used to and it's clear, "Bidenomics" is not working for the American people.

We need to control the runaway spending that is fueling this record inflation - and the budget fight this month is the time to do it.

Since Joe Biden took office, the U.S. debt has skyrocketed to $32 Trillion. Do you think Washington's spending habits are the problem?

District Updates

Addressing the Need for School Choice in Maryland:

This month, thousands of Maryland children returned to the classroom for another year of education. Sadly, for many of these children, and especially those in Baltimore City, they have no choice but to return to the same failing public schools they were in the previous year. I firmly believe no child should suffer in a failing public school and I recently penned an op-ed in the Washington Examiner making the case for more school choice in Maryland.

In The News

Impeachment Inquiry:

This week, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy directed three House committees to open an impeachment inquiry into President Biden. This decision came after months of thorough investigation and witness testimony.

What we know:

  • Joe Biden repeatedly lied to the American public about his own knowledge and involvement with his son Hunter Biden’s foreign business dealings.
  • The Treasury Department has more than 150 transactions involving the Biden family and other business associates that were flagged as “suspicious activity” by U.S. banks.
  • House Republicans uncovered highly credible information from an FBI source alleging Joe Biden received $5 million in exchange for pressuring a Ukrainian prosecutor (who was investigating a firm Hunter Biden was on the board of) to be fired.
  • House Republicans are uncovering more and more credible evidence of corruption by President Joe Biden through dozens of Committee hearings, witness testimony, document production, and rigorous oversight.

Where we go from here:

  • An impeachment inquiry provides the House with the formal opportunity to outline the scope of its investigation and further provides notice to the accused. An impeachment inquiry will also allow for more transparency to the public.

The committees of jurisdiction directed to begin the impeachment inquiry are:

  • The Committee on Oversight and Accountability, chaired by Rep. James Comer.
  • The Judiciary Committee, chaired by Rep. Jim Jordan.
  • The Committee on Ways and Means, chaired by Rep. Jason Smith.

The bottom line:

The American people deserve to know if Joe Biden is corrupt and the evidence we have points to corruption in the Biden family.
