The 2023 legislative session just ended, and our YIMBY movement is among the big winners! But our work isn't done yet. Will you ask Governor Newsom to sign AB 1633?

Most of California YIMBY's sponsored and priority legislation made it out of the legislature, and is waiting on the governor’s desk for his signature. These bills include:

SB 4, making it easier for churches to build housing on their property
SB 423, streamlining production of low- and middle-income housing
AB 835, updating standards to legalize more family-sized apartments
AB 976, extending incentives for building ADUs
AB 1633, ensuring that new housing that complies with local rules must be approved by local governments

And you played a central role in getting these bills passed. California YIMBY's organizers helped build broad coalitions to support these bills, and our policy experts helped shape these bills and educated legislators about their importance.

Our legislative team spent countless hours inside the Capitol strategizing with bill authors and their staff to round up votes, overcome obstacles, and get these bills to the governor.

But the most important work was done by Californians like you. Thousands of people emailed and called their legislators using California YIMBY's tools. That showed legislators their constituents want them to make it easier to build the housing our state needs.

AB 1633 passed the Assembly and the Senate, but it still needs Governor Gavin Newsom’s signature to become law. Send a message to the Governor today: Sign AB 1633!

AB 1633 is a good-government bill that ensures that environmentally-friendly infill housing projects receive a fair hearing, are voted on, approved, and built.

We all know what happens when local governments don’t follow local and state rules about approving new homes. We need your help to reduce the power NIMBYs have over the housing we so desperately need.

AB 1633, by San Francisco Assemblymember Phil Ting, takes a big step toward ending the abuse of local environmental and procedural rules to block new homes. AB 1633 will help ensure that new housing that complies with local rules must be approved by local governments.

Opponents of this bill are already mobilizing to drive calls into Governor Newsom’s office urging him to veto this bill. We need to show him that Californians support this common-sense policy.
