Libya Floods Emergency. Help families forced to flee their homes

Dear John,

Thank you in advance for stepping up and supporting the people who’ve been impacted by the devastating flooding in eastern Libya. The situation is shocking. Tens of thousands of people have been displaced.

UNHCR support has already reached those who have lost their homes, including in Derna, the worst-hit city. We have assisted more than 1,200 people – internally displaced people, those newly displaced, refugees and asylum-seekers – by:

  • Dispatching emergency supplies, including blankets, plastic sheeting, kitchen sets, hygiene kits and clothes
  • Expanding our hotline to provide advice and assistance.

People carry their belongings and walk amidst the debris, following a powerful storm and heavy rainfall hitting the country, in Derna, Libya
When people are forced to flee, they often leave quickly and without even basic supplies. $114 could provide core relief package including a Tarpaulin Sheet, a Kitchen/Cooking set, five medium thermal Fleece Blankets, two semi-collapsible jerry cans, and two solar lamps for a family displaced in Libya.

Donations like yours will really make a difference in the lives of the people affected by this tragedy.

You’ll be hearing more soon from my colleagues on the ground in Libya.
