When was the last time someone told you that New Mexicans are a rich people? Likely, never.

But we are. In New Mexico, we are blessed with a rich and diverse tapestry of history, culture, and tradition that comes to life in the people and landscapes we call home. It’s with the backdrop of our public lands and the jagged, sun-kissed peaks of the Organ Mountains that many important parts of Hispanic history — as well as our nation’s history — have been written here.

From the ancient Mogollons who set up camps along the Rio Grande river over 1,000 years ago to the first 33 Mexican settlers who founded the Doña Ana Bend Colony, the descendants of our Native and Spanish ancestors — us — are now the keepers of these lands and our collective history.

This mes nacional de la herencia hispana (National Hispanic Heritage Month) we honor those who came before us — and celebrate the continuation of our traditions and culture now in the 21st century.

As a first-generation Mexican-American who grew up on both sides of the border, I know how important it is that our stories are told in the halls of power, and I’m proud to help lead the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.

John, unfortunately, my time in Congress could be cut short. I only flipped this seat blue in 2022 with 50.3% of the vote. To win this toss-up seat again, I need your support: my biggest end-of-quarter deadline yet is coming up in just two weeks, and whether or not we meet this goal will make all the difference as we gear up for 2024. Thank you for your unending support of my campaign, John. Because of you, I have the opportunity to stand up for New Mexico families every single day, and I couldn’t be more grateful.
