Today is the start of Hispanic Heritage Month. Tomorrow is Dance Day, Mexico Independence Day, and Stepfamily Day. Sunday is Constitution Day and Citizenship Day, and the start of Unmarried and Single Americans Week. September is Preparedness Month and Wilderness Month. Summer 2023 ends on September 23.

National Hispanic Heritage Month:

September 15 - October 15

The 2022 American Community Survey estimated the U.S. population at 333,287,562. This includes 63,553,639 (about 19.1%) who identified as Hispanic or Latino.

National Dance Day: September 16

The County Business Patterns estimates there were 745 U.S. dance companies with 8,170 employees and an annual payroll of $291,829 million in 2021.

Mexico Independence Day (1810): September 16

The U.S. Census Bureau?s Population Clock estimated Mexico?s 2023 population at 129.9 million and the U.S. at 335.0 million, the world?s 10th and 3rd most populous countries.

National Stepfamily Day: September 16

The American Community Survey estimates that in 2022, there were 59.7 million biological children, 1.4 million adopted children and 2.4 million stepchildren of 33.7 million householders.?

Constitution Day and Citizenship Day: September 17

The ?American Community Survey estimates that in 2022 there were 311.6 million citizens and 21.7 million noncitizens in the U.S. and about 281.4 million citizens were born in here.

Unmarried and Single Americans Week: September 17-23

In 2022, about 132.3 million or 49.3% of Americans age 15 and over were unmarried, according to the Current Population Survey.??

National Preparedness Month: September

National Wilderness Month: September

The 1964 Wilderness Act created the National Wilderness Preservation System, which now includes 803 areas (111,889,002) in 44 states and Puerto Rico.

Summer 2023: June 21-September 23

In the United States, summer 2023 began with the Summer Solstice on June 21 at 10:58 a.m. EDT. It ends with the Autumnal Equinox on September 23 at 2:50 a.m. EDT. ?

2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season:

June 1-November 30

The U.S. Census Bureau?s OnTheMap for Emergency Management offers real-time access to data about the people living and working in areas affected by hurricanes. Note: 2023 Pacific Hurricane Season is May 15 to November 30.
