Intense flooding killed thousands, displaced tens of thousands, and wiped out entire neighborhoods after Storm Daniel struck the northeast coast of Libya.
As UNFPA is on the ground with our partners distributing Dignity Kits and Mama Kits and assessing needs, we are seeing these heartbreaking stats firsthand. Take a look:
Approximately 884,000 people across five Libyan provinces have been directly affected by the storm and flash floods.
That includes:
- 229,824 women of reproductive age
- 23,866 pregnant women
- 2,625 women who will give birth in the next month
UNFPA did the math and we’re appealing for $6.9 million to provide critical reproductive health and protection services to women and girls in need over the next three months. That might seem insurmountable, but we want to make sure no survivor is turned away or forgotten in the aftermath of Libya’s deadly floods.
Will you rush an emergency gift to chip away toward our Libya Emergency Appeal? Most donors are giving $126 to deliver lifesaving care and humanitarian aid to pregnant women, newborns, and survivors who need it most in Libya and beyond.
Thank you for being there for women and girls.
