Hello,

It’s been just over a month since the tragic passing of my partner in government, Lieutenant Governor Sheila Oliver. New Jersey lost one of its finest and brightest public servants. Sheila was truly a trailblazer in every sense of the word.

After these past few weeks of mourning and remembrance, one thing has become clear: since Sheila is no longer with us, it’s our duty to keep her legacy alive. We must do this by being a champion for the voiceless as Sheila was and continuing to work together as New Jerseyans to create a better future for all.

It’s time to finish the work Sheila and I started, so today, I’m proud to announce that Secretary of State Tahesha Way will serve as New Jersey’s next Lieutenant Governor!

There's no better person for this job. Tahesha is a proven public servant, and she’s played a vital role in this administration since day one. She has an incredible record, from serving on the Passaic County Board of Chosen Freeholders to the New Jersey Highlands Water Protection and Planning Council and even as an Administrative Law Judge in the state’s judicial branch.

As Secretary of State, Tahesha has overcome unique challenges to oversee successful elections and ensure that our citizens have their voices heard. She’s also helped grow New Jersey’s tourism industry and advocated for our state’s cultural and historic treasures. Her leadership has been recognized nationwide, and as the President of the National Association of Secretaries of State, she’s helped expand access to the ballot box for voters across the country.

Tahesha Way is the type of leader that New Jerseyans deserve. With her by my side, we’ll continue to work to deliver a more affordable, freer, and safer state for all.

I have no doubt that Tashesha will carry on Sheila’s legacy of fighting for a stronger and fairer New Jersey for all as the third Lieutenant Governor of our great state.
