I’m Congresswoman Doris Matsui, and I’m proud to represent California’s 7th Congressional District. As SEEC Co-Chair, I’m working hard in Congress to fight climate change, but what happened yesterday made me nervous.
Yesterday, Republicans in Congress voted on a bill limiting California’s ability to set our own vehicle emissions standards. These emissions standards would require that all new passenger vehicle sales will be zero-emission vehicles by 2035, which is expected to deliver $12 billion in public health benefits. It would also mean families would save $7,500 in consumer savings over the first 10 years of ownership. This is not only a positive for the health and financial well-being of our families, but also for our planet.
Republicans are hoping that you don’t notice – this bill has flown under the radar – because they know that people like you and me want to protect our right to breathe clean air and live on a safe planet for future generations.
We know that clean vehicles are key to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and mitigating the effects of climate change. But with Republicans bent on preventing regulation, it’s absolutely critical that we have the resources we need to fight back.
Thank you for stepping up and chipping in. It means so much to me.
