ACTION ALERT: Tell the Fairfax County Park Authority to Increase Parks Funding, Oppose Cuts. Contact them by SEPTEMBER 25

The Fairfax County Executive is asking county agencies, including the Park Authority, to reduce their budget proposals.
We believe the county should increase parks funding, not reduce it.
Please let officials know that you support increased funding for Fairfax County Parks and oppose cuts the Park Authority Board has suggested as a way to meet a 7% reduction requested by the County Executive. The parks already receive less than 1% of the county budget.
Among the suggested cuts are not funding new positions in forestry and bamboo mitigation that have not yet been filled, closing some park restrooms, reducing trail maintenance, and increasing fees for children’s summer programs while reducing their availability. You can review ASNV’s letter to the Park Authority Board.
Keep your letter short, personal, and to the point. Identify your neighborhood and explain why you support Fairfax County parks. Make sure that you emphasize the importance of a park system that conserves natural resources--our native plants and wildlife--for the benefit of people and the environment.
Write the Park Authority Board at [email protected] by September 25, and attend the Park Authority Board meetings on September 27 and October 25. Send a copy of your letter to your member of the Board of Supervisors and member of the Park Authority Board. You can find your member of the Board of Supervisors here and your member of the Park Authority Board here.
Thank you for your consideration.
