Tell Congress Stop the Hate on Asian Americans!

Dear John,

A recent Columbia University study found nearly 74 percent of Chinese Americans report they’ve faced hate and violence in the past 12 months. This year, the House Select Committee on Strategic Competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party has emerged as one of the most prominent voices spreading a culture of fear and bigotry.

The anti-China committee was accused of racial profiling in February when they requested the FBI investigate a federal government appointee for alleged ties to the Communist Party of China.

Hate-mongering from elected officials towards everything related to China is dangerous and puts Chinese Americans in danger. Our recent guest on CODEPINK Radio told us how worried she is for her family.

Sign here to tell Congress: stop the hate mongering!

One of the anti-China committee members, Representative Jim Banks, pushed for two amendments to a recent military spending spill passed by the Senate in July. If the bill becomes law, the amendments will force researchers to disclose personal information like their nationality if they're working for programs at universities that receive funding from the Pentagon. Another amendment will also close Confucius Institutes, programs that promote Chinese language learning and cultural exchange. This further escalates separation, suspicion, and hate. Instead, we need leadership from Congress that encourages cooperation and peace.

Anti-China hate increased in recent years but it is harrowing to see how many people it is putting in harm's way. We must resist the new cold war on China and protect those affected by the culture of fear it has created in our workplaces, schools, and our society at large. For the people and the planet we need peace; driving more war is a crime against humanity.

In Solidarity,

Cale, Grace, and Jodie
