Folks, ‘tis the season of the frenzied FEC filing deadline, when all campaigns (ours included) scramble to ramp up fundraising before their numbers go public.
But before I ask for your help in reaching our first FEC End-of-Quarter goal since my Republican opponent jumped into the race, I want to make sure we’re on the same page.
(If you’re in a hurry, you can skip ahead to the help part and chip in $15 here.)
The gist of the FEC (Federal Election Commission) filing deadline is to track the money coming into and out of campaigns (and to make sure everything is above board).
It includes information like the amount, origin, and type of each contribution; a record of all expenditures; and total amount raised.
Once that report is filed, those cold, hard numbers are out there for everyone to see – including my new GOP opponent, national Republicans, and political analysts.
In other words, a lackluster fundraising report signals weakness when we need to be projecting strength.
That’s why your small-dollar contributions have such a large impact: They’re proof that we’re not bankrolled by super PACs and special interests, but by engaged, dedicated Democrats like you.
That’s why I’m asking you today to chip in $15 or whatever feels right to you ahead of our FEC deadline on September 30th.
Thanks,
Sean
