John,
This week, the Kern County Board of Education voted on whether students deserve to feel safe in their classrooms and homes.
I was able to speak out against the proposed Parental Notification Policy, which would require schools to notify parents if their child requests to be called by a different name and/or pronouns.
Hateful policies like this one jeopardize student privacy and safety. It is the Board of Education’s job to protect EVERY student and ensure that they receive an education in a safe and accepting environment.
John, so many of the LGBTQ+ students in my classroom can’t go home and be who they truly are. Far too often, the bullying starts in the home.
As progressive as California is, our LGBTQ+ students are not safe from bigoted attacks. I will ALWAYS stand between our precious students and the hate inflicted on them by right wing extremists.
