So…quick question, |FNAME|*,
What’s more important than fixing our failing schools or passing a funding bill?
Welp… if you’re a Republican member of Congress this week, apparently the answer is: nothing matters more than scoring political points if it benefits a former president.
What’s happening in the U.S. House of Representatives right now is a disgrace. Congress is less than three weeks away from a full government shutdown. Our nation’s auto workers are on the brink of a strike that will likely cost the American economy billions. And our nation leads the world in just three things — none of which can really be considered “positive.”
I’d like to believe leaders on both sides of the aisle do affirmatively care about our country — but this week has really made that a challenge.
The need for petty political payback does not absolve our leaders of their responsibilities to average, ordinary Americans. If you’re like me, we just want a government that works, and leaders who our kids can be proud of.
So why House Republicans are pursuing a baseless witch hunt against President Joe Biden, instead of legislating or trying to avoid a full blown government shutdown— it just defies logic.
Families like all of ours need real leadership right now — and none of us care whether Senator Ted Cruz grabs another interview on NewsMax, or if it provides enough fodder to keep Cruz’s podcast alive for a few more weeks.
…Though, that does seem to be a primary motivation behind House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s impeachment probe against our president.
I launched Mothers For Democracy because I knew families all across this country deserved better representation — in school boards, and city councils, and yes, even in Congress. And I knew we’d need to fight back against the extremism that has overtaken so much of the Republican party.
Moms for Liberty and their ilk will never represent the majority of parents out there. The rest of us? We deserve an organization that can mobilize and organize to resist them.
Whether that means fighting book bans in our kids' schools or standing up to demand that our members of Congress do more with our taxpayer money than a factless goose chase against the sitting President — Mothers For Democracy is ready to take on the fights that our families need to win.
Restoring confidence in our democratic institutions is going to require all of us. Moms, dads, aunts, uncles, grandparents, neighbors, and folks like us have a big role to play now.
We can no longer depend on elected officials to volunteer to do the right thing. That’s why we need to mobilize now to make sure we’re electing leaders at all levels of government who are committed to representing all of us.
The work ahead isn’t going to be easy — standing up to extremists never is. But I am confident that together, we can do this. If you’d like to join us with a contribution today, please know that your donation is helping to build a movement for all our families.
