Friend,

Tomorrow is the start of Hispanic Heritage Month! We are celebrating the history, culture and contributions made by Hispanic and Latinx people in the United States.

Observed from Sept 15 to Oct 15, Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to recognize the resilience and strides our Hispanic and Latinx communities have made in the fight for racial, civic and economic justice, but there is still more work to do to bring meaningful and equitable change.

At the SPLC, we build power and strengthen partnerships with Black and Brown Latinx people through our programs like our award-winning Learning for Justice: [link removed] program and the Vote Your Voice initiative: [link removed]

And, our Immigrant Justice Project: [link removed] fights to ensure that all immigrants are treated fairly, equally and with dignity.

The Immigrant Justice Project team works on the ground in the immigration courts and detention centers to reveal systemic abuses and file impact litigation against those abuses. We also seek to end federal and local law enforcement abuse of immigrants and those perceived to be immigrants. We sued the Trump administration over its family separation policy: [link removed] and we continue to challenge racist and inhumane immigration policies in court: [link removed]

Our Southeast Immigrant Freedom Initiative: [link removed] provides pro bono legal representation to detained immigrants at immigrant detention centers in the Deep South.

At Learning for Justice, our team works diligently to ensure educators have the resources necessary to be successful in the classroom and beyond, bringing Latinx voices to the classroom: [link removed]

We sustain collaborations with community members, promote leadership and build collective power to take action-all free of charge.

Our Vote your Voice initiative: [link removed] works to collaborate with partners who are building power by utilizing resources to scale up and revamp their voter outreach and civic engagement efforts in Black and Brown communities. Along with the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, we are giving $100 million in grants over the next decade. We're proud to see our partners leading in their own communities by organizing in Hispanic and Latinx communities across the South.

Every day, we are reminded of our commitment to equity and justice for Latinx and Hispanic communities and will continue championing those inalienable rights in the Deep South and beyond.

From all of us at the SPLC, happy Hispanic Heritage Month!

With gratitude,

Your friends at the Southern Poverty Law Center
