Yesterday, more than 20 tech and civil society leaders [[link removed]] convened in D.C. for the first of several listening sessions on the regulation of artificial intelligence. Attendance included Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk, Sundar Pichai, and others…
The tech executives expressed concerns about the potential for AI to spread misinformation, create mass surveillance systems, automate jobs, and the lack of transparency and accountability in the development of AI systems. The forum ended with a call for more research and public discussion on the issue of AI regulation.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said he plans to hold additional forums in the coming months and hopes to introduce legislation on AI regulation by the end of the year.
While we believe this is a good first step, it’s important to include the general public in the conversation about AI regulation. We cannot leave this issue solely in the hands of the tech giants – especially when they have so much to gain from the proliferation of artificial intelligence. Moreover, we need legislators to pass much-needed legislation now.
So, John, we are at a crucial moment in changing the trajectory of our technology infrastructure, and our movement is growing. Will you join our movement today to build a safer and better web? [[link removed]]
