Governor Whitmer Makes Appointments to Boards and Commissions?

LANSING, Mich. ? Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced the following appointments to the Detroit Financial Review Commission and Michigan Board of Dentistry.?

?

Today?s appointees represent Michigan?s young professionals, communities of color, seniors, and more. The appointees announced this week build on Governor Whitmer?s work to ensure appointees reflect Michigan?s diverse population. Sixty percent of appointees are women or people of color, and the Whitmer cabinet is the most diverse in Michigan history.?

Detroit Financial Review Commission?

?

Hakim Berry, of?Ann Arbor, is the Director of Human and Labor Relations for Michigan Medicine. Previously, he was chief operating officer for the City of Detroit. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Labor Studies from Wayne State University, a Master of Science in Human Resources Administration from Central Michigan University, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Detroit Mercy. Mr. Berry is appointed as a nominee of the senate majority leader for a term commencing September 14, 2023, and expiring November 9, 2025. He succeeds Stacy Fox, whose term has expired.?

The Detroit Financial Review Commission (FRC) is responsible for oversight of the City of Detroit and the Detroit Public Schools Community District. It ensures both are meeting statutory requirements, reviews and approves their budgets, and establishes programs and requirements for prudent fiscal management, among other roles and responsibilities.?

Michigan Board of Dentistry??

Martha Morgan, of Royal Oak, is a professor at University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry. She previously worked as an educator at Mott Community College, and at University of Michigan - Flint. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in healthcare administration and a Master of Science in health education from the University of Michigan - Flint, and a Master of Arts in curriculum and instruction from University of Detroit Mercy. She is reappointed to represent dental hygienists for a term commencing August 31, 2023, and expiring June 30, 2027.???

Dr. Hassan Yehia, of Dearborn, is an associate endodontist at Endodontics PC. He is also an adjunct faculty member at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry and the Graduate Endodontics Program. Dr. Yehia received a Bachelor of Science in biological sciences from Wayne State University, a Doctor of Dental Surgery and completed the endodontics certification program at the University of Michigan. Dr. Yehia is reappointed to represent dentists with health profession specialty certificates, with the term commencing August 31, 2023, and expiring June 30, 2027.? ??

Dr. Deborah Brown, of Grand Rapids, is the CEO of My Community Dental Centers. She previously worked as a Senior Dental Director at WellCare Health Plans. She received her Bachelor of Arts in biology and Doctor of dental medicine from Rutgers University. Dr. Brown is reappointed to represent general dentists, with the term commencing August 31, 2023, and expiring June 30, 2027.? ??

Ellen Chambers, of Williamston, is a clinical lead at Discover Smiles Pediatric Dentistry. She has been a registered dental assistant for over 25 years. Chambers holds an Associate of Applied Science in dentistry from Northwestern Michigan College and a Bachelor of Science in public administration from Central Michigan University. Chambers is appointed to represent dental assistants for a term commencing August 31, 2023, and expiring June 30, 2027. She succeeds Kathleen Webber whose term has expired.?????

Dr. Rouzana Hares, of West Bloomfield, is the Vice President of Great Smile Dental, a private practice. Dr. Hares established the Interfaith Dental refugee program in March of 2022. She has also served on the Unity Center Board for Directors. She holds an Executive Master of Business Administration from the University of Michigan, a Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Detroit Mercy and received her Master of General Dentistry from the American Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Hares is appointed to represent dentists, for a term commencing August 31, 2023, and expiring June 30, 2027. She succeeds Dr. Kristi Thomas whose term has expired.? ??

Dr. Dennis Fasbinder, of Dexter, is the director of advanced education in general dentistry at the University of Michigan. He previously served as a general dentist for the United States Air Force. Dr. Fasbinder holds a Bachelor of Science in zoology as well as dental surgery from the University of Michigan. Dr. Fasbinder is appointed to represent dentists for a term commencing August 31, 2023, and expiring June 30, 2027. He succeeds Dr. Craig Spangler whose term has expired.???

The Michigan Board of Dentistry was formed to regulate the practice of dentistry and dental hygiene, authorize dental assistants, and certify specialists in the fields of orthodontics, endodontics, prosthodontics, pediatric dentistry, periodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, and oral pathology.???
