Recently, the House Committee on Appropriations approved the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) Appropriations Act of 2024, a bill that significantly cuts public transit and passenger rail below the authorized funding levels of the bipartisan infrastructure law. |
| John, This week, association members from across the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) network will meet with members of Congress to underscore the importance of robust public transportation and the need to invest in critical upgrade and expansion initiatives. As Voices for Public Transit, we can amplify the efforts of the APTA members by raising our voices to lawmakers this week about the significance of strong transportation systems anchored in public transit for our communities. Right now, the House of Representatives is working on the 2024 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) Appropriations bill, and if the current version passes, it will reduce public transit investment by $2.3 billion. We must act now! | Public transportation plays a critical role in connecting people to their jobs and career opportunities, strengthening local economies, and supporting vibrant communities. With the IIJA still being implemented, we must keep a steady drumbeat of support and champion initiatives that allow for the maximum amount of investment allocated by the law. As always, thank you for supporting increased public transportation investment that strengthens communities of all sizes. Voices for Public Transit | | | © 2023 Voices for Public Transit.
