VIDEO OF THE DAY: Kevin McCarthy crumbles over Biden impeachment question
Not less than TWO WEEKS ago, Kevin McCarthy told reporters that impeachment is a "serious matter" that demands a "vote on the floor in the people's House and not a declaration by one person." So when he unilaterally declared by himself yesterday that the House would be opening a baseless and futile impeachment inquiry into President Biden, the media naturally confronted him about his glaring hypocrisy...and he had a very hard time trying to explain himself without using the phrase "Well, this ISN'T a serious inquiry, we have nothing to stand on, and I only did it to mollify rabid extremists who are threatening to fire me through the terms of the Faustian bargain I made to get this job in the first place."

Federal judge again declares that DACA is illegal with issue likely to be decided by Supreme Court
A George W. Bush appointee once again ruled against the transformative Obama-era program protecting nearly 580,000 immigrants brought to the United States as children from deportation. While US District Judge Andrew Hanen declared a revised version of the plan illegal, he declined to order an immediate end to the program, opting to pass that most enviable buck to the radical right-wing Supreme Court, where a supermajority of Bush and Trump appointees will likely legalize the abhorrent and arbitrary deportation of half a million innocent people out of xenophobic spite.

Michigan Republicans elected an election denier as their new leader and she's coming for our voting rights
Promote the Vote: Kristina Karamo is the new leader of Michigan's GOP, and when it comes to attacks on truth and our rights, she's giving Trump a run for his money. With no evidence, she claims there is illegal voting that cost her an election last year and blames “left-wing anarchists” for... well... everything. She has no business leading a major state party, and she is a threat to voting rights in Michigan and beyond. Fortunately, the group, Promote the Vote, is doing the work to ensure that our voting rights remain sacred and secure — but they can't do it alone. Can you chip in a few bucks to ensure they have the resources to protect election integrity in the key swing state?
Millionaire CEO wants unemployment to jump to 50% because workers have become "arrogant"
In a rare, honest glimpse of the contempt and utter lack of care the oligarch class has for the workers whose exploitation produces their wealth, Australian property developer Tim Gurner — infamous for launching the "millennials have no money because they're eating avocado toast" broadside — smeared workers for being "arrogant" and called for unemployment to rise by a whopping 50%. "We need to see pain in the economy...we need to remind people they work for the employer, not the other way around," said Gurner, doubtlessly squinting through a gold-rimmed monocle and twirling his waxed mustache. "Pain in the economy" means kids going hungry, families suffering, and people losing their homes — all so that the ultrawealthy can lower the price of labor and pocket even more profit. It's selfish cruelty writ large — and the guiding principle of oligarchic capitalism. [RETWEET THAT!]

Virginia state House candidate who livestreamed consensual sex videos with her husband draws support from women and a leading Democrat
Democrat Susanna Gibson, a nurse practitioner and married mother of two, is locked in a highly competitive race against a Republican businessman that could determine the balance of power in the Virginia General Assembly. So naturally, morally bankrupt GOP operatives — with the able assistance of "journalists" at the Washington Post — dredged up videos Gibson and her husband once shared on a legal, adult website featuring nudity and consensual sexual activity. Gibson, a staunch supporter of reproductive rights, defiantly refused to be shamed by the hit job, calling the leak a violation of her privacy and "the worst gutter politics." And she's not alone. State Sen. L. Louise Lucas, a leading Democratic lawmaker in Virginia, quickly came to Gibson's defense, calling on voters to “make this the biggest fundraising day of (Gibson’s) campaign.” Folks, if a serial sex pest like Donald "grab em by the p*ssy" Trump can win over the hearts and minds of evangelical America and occupy 👏 the 👏 Oval 👏 Office 👏 then what we have here is an utterly inedible nothingburger unworthy of our continued attention. Eugene Peltola, husband of Democratic Rep. Mary Peltola, dies after a plane crash in Alaska
Our hearts go out to Rep. Peltola and her family after this heart-wrenching tragedy. Eugene "Buzzy" Peltola, a prolific subsistence harvester, avid sports hunter, and fisherman, worked for the US Fish and Wildlife service for three decades and eventually became the first Alaska Native to oversee the Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge. He was known for "his delightful sense of humor that lightened the darkest moments” and his cooking talents.
FBI agent contests whistleblower claims in Hunter Biden case, transcript shows
All you need to know about this is that once again, the whistleblowing bozo the GOP strong-armed into being their key witness in the perpetually siren-ensnared odyssey of finding any kind of wrongdoing by the Biden family turned out to have been misrepresenting the facts. Moving on. [RETWEET THAT!]

New York City and Oregon pension funds sue Fox News
The lawsuit rightfully alleges that Fox News pushed "political narratives without regard for whether the underlying factual assertions were true or based on sources worthy of credit" and chose "to profit from defamation," thus failing its responsibility to its shareholders. You may be wondering why state pension funds are invested in a right-wing propaganda network in the first place, but the takeaway here is crystal clear — Fox News willfully profited off rampant defamation. May justice be served.
GOP Sen. Mitt Romney says he will not run for reelection
The former Massachusetts governor, failed presidential candidate, and current senator from Utah is finally hanging up the pen he has long used to sign checks from lobbyists. While he won't be missed for his repulsive, corporate voting record, he was one of the GOP's few remaining anti-Trump voices in the Senate willing to do the bare minimum of their oath of office, which should count for something...except we also just learned that he apparently eats his salmon on a hamburger bun, smothered in ketchup. Absolute goblin behavior and a crime against food.
Conditions on Earth may be moving outside the "safe operating space" for humanity, according to dozens of scientists
Human behavior has pushed the world into the danger zone on several key indicators of planetary health, threatening to trigger dramatic changes in conditions on Earth, according to a new analysis from 29 scientists in eight countries. This seems extremely not good and should inspire some kind of decisive action in the richest nation on the planet, were it not being held hostage by a rabid cabal of ignorant white supremacists and soulless gazillionaires obsessed with almighty quarterly profits.
Senate subpoenas Saudi’s $700 billion sovereign wealth fund over US dealings
The Senate subcommittee on investigations has finally begun probing the vast Saudi Arabian sovereign wealth fund, wielded like a magic wand by the devious Mohammed bin Salman, to find out precisely what the Saudis are doing throwing around billions of dollars buying up American golf tournaments. In what should surprise no one, the wealth fund has refused to cooperate with disclosure requests, which created quite a lot of concern in the Senate due to Saudi Arabia's abhorrent human rights record and of course, the whole "doing 9/11" thing.
