Dear John,
Amid rising authoritarianism and democratic backsliding, recent studies suggest that the world’s young people are increasingly disengaged from political life. At the same time, they remain engaged in civic life, organizing and attending protest demonstrations and making their voices heard outside the traditional political sphere.
There are now more people under 24 than at any point in history. Together, they have the extraordinary potential to strengthen democracy, create and maintain a vibrant civil society, and put a stop to rising authoritarianism. They are a force to be reckoned with and have tremendous contributions to make. Leaders should listen up.
