Dear John, Ugh. From the moment the Trump administration announced its policy to cut Title X funding to abortion providers, AAF has done everything we could to shut it down. We activated a ton of folks with this video, created a petition that got 123,000 signatures and PERSONALLY delivered it to five members of Congress on the Appropriations Committee, and used every messaging means available to explain over and over that this new regulation would send Title X funds to organizations that run fake clinics, i.e, anti-abortion extremists who dispense misinformation and shame instead of ACTUAL healthcare. But alas, the 9th Circuit Court upheld this rule, and now clinics that provide abortion care or even just referrals for abortion will no longer be eligible to receive tax-payer funding that helps them ALSO provide low cost/no cost reproductive health care and vital family planning services. This is a crisis because Planned Parenthood and other community clinics provide the lion’s share of this preventative and family planning care and now they may have to turn away low-income folks for birth control and pap smears because they don’t have the necessary funds. Now is the time to contact your congressperson and demand they defund Title X unless these funds are restored to actual healthcare providers. | |
And that’s just the scary news of this week. Next Wednesday, March 4th, may be the beginning of the end of Roe v. Wade, as the Supreme Court will hear the case June Medical Services v. Gee. Our entire AAF team will be in DC on the steps of the Supreme Court supporting the amazing independent abortion provider Hope Clinic, who for the past three years has tirelessly fought this horrible Louisiana law all the way to the highest court in the land.
