Washington Health Care Authority is amending these rules to include coverage for adult Cochlear Implants for Apple Health (Medicaid) clients.


* WAC 182-531-0200 [ [link removed] ]: *Physician-related and health care professional services requiring prior?**authorization.*
* Prior authorization (inclusive of expedited prior authorization) is required for cochlear implant devices.
* Prior authorization is required for removal or repair of previously implanted BAHA or cochlear implant devices. ?

* WAC 182-531-037 [ [link removed] ]5: *Audiology services*
* The agency covers with prior authorization, cochlear implant devices.
* The agency covers BAHAs for clients 20 years of age and younger with prior authorization.
* The agency covers replacement parts and batteries for BAHAs and cochlear implant devices.
* The agency considers requests for removal or repair of previously implanted BAHAs and cochlear implant devices for clients 21 years of age and older only when medically necessary. Prior authorization from the agency is required.

ODHH works to ensure that services and resources are accessible and inclusive to all Washingtonians.

ODHH operates under the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) and is entrusted with fulfilling its legislative mandate outlined in RCW 43.20A.725.
ODHH?s work includes:

Advocacy: ODHH advocates for the rights, interests, and needs of individuals who are Deaf, DeafBlind, Deaf Disabled, Hard of Hearing, Late Deafened, and Speech Disabled. The Office works to eliminate communication barriers and promote equal opportunities in various service areas, including training, consultation, contract management, information and referrals, and resources to promote communication equity.

Coordination: ODHH is a centralized resource. The Office collaborates with governmental, business, and community stakeholders to develop and implement policies, programs, and initiatives that address and ensure that state services and resources are accessible and inclusive to all Washingtonians.
