Yesterday, Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced his support for an impeachment inquiry into President Biden. This comes at the same time that House Republicans are threatening to oust McCarthy unless he shutdowns the government on September 30.
Republicans know that the chaos makes it impossible to govern. And for many of them, that’s exactly the goal.
Republicans have shown, time and again, that they have no respect for our democratic institutions. They want government to fail.
Every government shutdown in the last 30 years occurred when Republicans had control of the House of Representatives. Last time it happened, it drove people to food pantries and forced an $8 billion hit to the economy. They treat people missing paychecks like it’s no big deal.
