Dear MoveOn member,

Breaking news: House Speaker Kevin McCarthy just announced that the U.S.
House of Representatives will open an impeachment inquiry into President
Joe Biden.^1

Without a shred of evidence of any wrongdoing, and despite Republicans in
Congress trying for years to find dirt on the president.

Let us be clear: This is a sham impeachment brought forward by a failing
speaker as another desperate political stunt to appease the extremists in
his party. It is a complete waste of time and resources and will do
nothing to benefit the country.

[ [link removed] ]We'll explain in a moment, but if you don't have the time, can you
pitch in $3 to help us launch a multipronged campaign to
fight back against GOP-created distractions?

First, we can't forget that Republican calls to impeach Biden began before
he was even elected in 2020.^2 So no matter what "evidence" they make up
for this inquiry, we know it's just a convenient excuse for their attack
plan to win in 2024.

Even some Republican members of Congress have privately said they have no
evidence and therefore no real reason to launch this inquiry.^3

So, why are the House Republicans wasting everyone's time with this sham
impeachment inquiry?

To start, Kevin McCarthy is afraid of losing his job. After an
unprecedented 15 rounds of voting, McCarthy was eventually voted in as
speaker at the start of the year.^4 In return, McCarthy promised that any
members of his party could lead a vote to kick him out of the speakership,
giving far-right House members like Marjorie Taylor Greene and Matt Gaetz
significantly more power and influence in the House.

This is dangerous. McCarthy has empowered MAGA Republicans to do as they
please, not only to keep the speakership but to shore up GOP fundraising
heading into the 2024 election.

Plus, Donald Trump's legal troubles continue to grow, and with his first
trial scheduled to start in early March, the GOP has fully committed
itself to Trump's defense.^5 By leveraging this bogus impeachment, they
hope to deflect attention away from Trump's indictments.

That's why MoveOn is gearing up to launch a massive, multi-pronged
campaign to fight back against these GOP-created distractions and win in
2024.

With your help, MoveOn is prepared to do all of this:

* Targeted television and digital ads highlighting the bogus nature of
this inquiry that have been message-tested and proven effective. These
ads will both point out the obvious corruption and hypocrisy of
Republicans who railed against Donald Trump's legitimate impeachments
and highlight President Biden's impressive victories on climate
change, reining in the greed of the pharmaceutical industry, combating
inflation, investing in infrastructure, canceling student debt, and
more. If possible, we will even try to place these ads on Fox News
itself.

* Strategic investment in defeating the Complicit Caucus. There are
currently 18 Republicans in Congress who represent districts Biden won
in 2020 and who won based on lies that they were "moderates." MoveOn
has spent months building up cohorts of local organizers in these
districts, and if this impeachment inquiry moves forward, we will
hammer these members in their home districts and remind voters that
they are just as extreme as Marjorie Taylor Greene.

* A revolutionary voter turnout strategy proven to be five times more
effective than traditional tactics. It's called "vote tripling," and
it involves individuals reaching out to their own friends and family
members to help them make a plan to vote. MoveOn first deployed this
tactic in 2020, and data show that it helped to turn out more than
100,000 voters!

If Republicans continue to move forward with this fabricated impeachment
inquiry, we need to be ready to launch an enormous campaign to counter the
lies and disinformation that will flood the airwaves—and remind voters of
the mounting evidence of Trump's crimes.

But if this campaign is going to be as impactful as we're hoping, it will
take a groundswell of grassroots support to make sure we can pull this
off.

[ [link removed] ]John, what do you say? Will you pitch in $3
today so we can launch our hard-hitting campaign?

Thanks for all you do.

Want to support MoveOn's work? Book bans have skyrocketed thanks to
right-wing state laws which have forced teachers to remove books from
their classrooms. In response, MoveOn is launching a "Banned Bookmobile,"
filling it with books that the far right has banned, and driving it around
to hand out those books, for free, in highly trafficked areas that will
attract media attention. To keep the Banned Bookmobile up and running into
2024, we need your help.

Will you chip in to power our critical work?
