Presently, the FDA requires any brand-name drug company to submit patent information that covers drug products. But that system is being abused by Big Pharma giants. They rig the list with “sham” patents that end up blocking the introduction of generic drugs that come in at lower prices than their big brand names.
In short: Big Pharma companies have more of an incentive than ever to list “sham” patents to preserve their monopoly status and keep drug prices high.
