Dear John,
As we saw yesterday, gun violence remains our national shame. We mourn for the lives lost in Milwaukee. In honor of the victims and their families, we stand renewed in our commitment to work to end the devastation of gun violence in this country.
Exactly one year ago today, our team sat in the gallery as the House of Representatives passed H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Check Act of 2019, which would establish universal background checks on ALL GUN SALES in America.
It was a huge victory for our movement. Once H.R. 8 passed the House of Representatives, it was time for the Senate to pass the Background Check Expansion Act (S. 42), the Senate companion to H.R. 8. But Mitch McConell has refused to bring the bill up for a vote.
That's right -- 365 days later, the bill remains untouched. Help us tell the Senate to pass universal background checks by making a donation right now: [link removed].
This long wait is unacceptable. Every day that the Senate fails to act on S. 42, countless people die or are injured by gun violence in this country. The duty of the Senate is to protect the American citizens, and by ignoring this bill they are putting us -- the voters who elected them -- at risk.
Here's the bottom line: for victims of gun violence, there isn't time for this partisan political stalemate.
The Senate must be held accountable. Chip in now to join CSGV in demanding that the Senate pass universal background checks: [link removed]!
Thank you,
