Every August, Congress takes an extended district work period from traveling back and forth to Washington. This year, I had the opportunity to travel the district touring businesses, visiting with constituents, hosting town halls, and attending events with international impact, like the Nebraska State Fair, and the recent world record-breaking UNL vs UNO Women’s Volleyball game at Memorial Stadium. I truly gained a greater appreciation for what Nebraskans like yourself are thinking, doing, and the challenges you are facing.

Below are just a few of the highlights from the past month to show you how I am working for you and to celebrate what people across the district and state are accomplishing.

I extend a thank you to everyone who attended my town hall in Douglas County at Westside Middle School. Town halls allow me to answer constituent questions and hear about your concerns about a variety of issues from the border to the economy. If you were not able to participate in the town hall but would still like to share your thoughts, you can submit them through my website here

In August, we celebrated our own Bud Crawford, the best male boxer in the world, with a parade in downtown Omaha. Crawford is the first boxer to win all four major titles, and dedicates his spare time to giving back to kids in need. Through his B&B Boxing academy in Omaha, he helps kids stay off the streets, be involved in something positive, and follow their dreams.

I had the opportunity to visit UNO and learn about two unique aviation degrees and their athletic programs. The U.S. is facing a pilot shortage, and UNO's aviation program offers flight training for new pilots. I also had an opportunity to meet with the UNO volleyball team, the Mavericks, and hear more from these impressive student athletes. The team has an average 3.7 GPA and talked about balancing school and athletics. Go Mavs!

The Omaha Star is celebrating 85 years of reporting. Founded in 1938 by Mildred Brown, the paper is now owned by publisher Terri Sanders. It circulates to 30,000 readers in 48 states, and features African American perspectives, history, and culture. I was pleased to visit the Omaha Star with my district director, James Wright, to present a tribute to the Omaha Star that has been enterd into the Congressional Record.

I had the opportunity to visit multiple local businesses in August, and hear about the challenges that business owners face, and how technology is changing the business space.

While visiting, eCreamery presented me with a sweet surprise, proving that everything is better with bacon... even ice cream!

As a member of the House Committee on Agriculture, it was great to attend the Nebraska State Fair and see the showcase of Nebraska agriculture. While there, I met with FFA and 4H participants, the Nebraska Corn Growers Association, University of Nebraska Ag Extension, and with fair leadership. Meeting with farmers and ranchers helps us prepare the upcoming Farm Bill.

August has been an exceptionally busy month, and as we g, I look forward to a productive fall working for the people of Nebraska's Second Congressional District.

Sincerely,

Rep. Don Bacon

Member of Congress
