Honoring 9/11

On Monday, I took a moment for reflection and remembrance of the events of 9/11 and to thank the first responders, firefighters, and police officers for their heroic actions 22 years ago.

Cavalcante Capture

With the news of Danelo Cavalcante’s capture, I wanted to thank all law enforcement officers, state and federal agencies who worked tirelessly to apprehend Cavalcante and thank you, my constituents, for remaining calm and staying vigilant during this time.

I recognize that this has been a stressful time for those in and around the Phoenixville area and I’m glad we can all breathe a sigh of relief. And I hope that the family of Deborah Brandão who was brutally murdered by Cavalcante, can rest a bit easier knowing Cavalcante is back behind bars to serve out his life sentence.

Basic Education Funding Commission

In 2016, the General Assembly enacted the basic education funding formula recommended by the Basic Education Funding Commission (BEFC). That formula uses various student-based weights and district-level factors to determine each school district’s fair share of funds that the General Assembly distributes through the formula. The original BEFC’s formula has been in effect for eight fiscal years with only minor adjustments.

Per the PA Supreme Court, the way the state funds education is unconstitutional and must be changed. Per Section 123(k) of the Public School Code, the 2023 BEFC is charged with reviewing the distribution of state funding for basic education to Pennsylvania’s 500 school districts and providing a report of its findings to the General Assembly and welcomes public comment. PA House of Representatives Legislative Fellowship Program

The Pennsylvania House of Representatives Legislative Fellowship Program is currently accepting applications for the Spring 2024 semester. The 13-week Fellowship Program is based in PA’s Capitol Building in Harrisburg and is available to college, graduate, or law school students.

Native Meadow & Riparian Buffer Event

The Montgomery County Conservation District is hosting a Native Meadow and Riparian Buffer Showcase, a free educational event to observe and discuss conservation efforts for native meadows and riparian buffer plantings and potential funding opportunities. The event is outdoors and will include walking. Plan to wear appropriate footwear and registration is required.

The Wall That Heals – Upper Providence

Upper Providence will be hosting The Wall That Heals, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Replica Wall on October 26-29. The exhibit is free and will be open to the public 24 hours a day at the Anderson Farm Park during it’s time in Upper Providence. Sponsorship and volunteer opportunities are available here. I’m looking forward to its arrival and seeing it in person with my fellow veterans.
