Thank you for your generous support of First Star and our scholars. You are driving a real and lasting impact as part of the First Star community and, with your support, our programs and scholars are thriving!
- In 2023, 97% of First Star scholars graduated from high school and 92% enrolled in post-secondary education. Nationwide, less than 50% of youth in foster care graduate high school and less than 10% enroll in post-secondary education.
- For those entering post-secondary education, 66% enrolled in four-year universities. Comparatively, 43% of all high school seniors nationwide enroll in four-year universities.
- First Star scholars report profound improvements in how they feel about their futures: 94% report they now believe attending college is possible for them.
- We’ve provided over $30,000 in emergency micro-grants to over 100 First Star alumni who are overcoming barriers in post-secondary education and beyond.
- The California Foster Youth Pre-College Collective, a First Star-led collaboration between several direct-service organizations, continues to improve education outcomes for youth in care while advocating for sustainable public funding sources for foster youth.
