Dear John:

As everyone heads back to school, I wanted to remind you of all the student services my office offers!

Military Academy Nominations

I have the distinct honor of nominating candidates for appointment to four of the five U.S. service academies:

  • U.S. Military Academy (USMA), West Point, NY;
  • U.S. Naval Academy (USNA), Annapolis, MD;
  • U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA), Colorado Springs, CO; and
  • U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), Kings Point, NY.

(The fifth service academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (USCGA), New London, CT, does not require a congressional nomination for appointment.)

If you would like to request a Military Academy Nomination from my office, please complete the application on my website and submit it to the District Office in Willmar, Minnesota, postmarked no later than October 6, 2023, to be considered for an appointment in 2024.

For more information, please review the page of Frequently Asked Questions for those seeking a Military Academy Nomination.

Congressional App Challenge

Students from Minnesota's Seventh Congressional District are invited to create and submit their own app for the annual Congressional App Challenge! The competition is open to all middle and high school students who meet eligibility requirements. Winners will be selected by panels of judges drawn from the local community and will be eligible to be featured on display in the U.S. Capitol building and on the Congressional App Challenge website. You can register for entry here.

The competition deadline is November 1. Winners will be selected by panels of judges drawn from the local community and will be eligible to be featured on display in the U.S. Capitol building and on the Congressional App Challenge website. You can register for entry here.

For more information, please see the submission guidelines or visit the official site of the Congressional App Challenge.

Congressional Art Competition

I encourage all students to to submit their artwork for the chance to have it showcased in the U.S. Capitol!

This contest is open to all high school students in Minnesota's 7th Congressional District. The exhibit in Washington will include the winning artwork from all participating districts from around the country. The winning artwork is also featured on House.gov's Congressional Art Competition page.

All entries must be original in concept, design, and execution and may not violate any U.S. copyright laws. Any entry that has been copied from an existing photo or image (including a painting, graphic, or advertisement) that was created by someone other than the student is a violation of the competition rules and will not be accepted. Work entered must be in the original medium (that is, not a scanned reproduction of a painting or drawing).

2024 submissions will be due this spring, with an official deadline to be announced. For more information, please visit my website.

Internships

Are you interested in learning more about the legislative process and gain valuable, hands-on experience working in Congress? Internships are available in my Washington, D.C. office and my district offices! All college students are welcome to apply.

We accept fall, spring, and summer interns. Please visit my website for an application form.

Thanks for reading!

As always, my office is open and ready to serve constituents of Minnesota's Seventh Congressional District! Please do not hesitate to get in touch if there is anything I can do to help. Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,
