John,
I want to talk to you about a threat to our campaign, our democracy, and the people-powered movement you’ve helped me build.
We urgently need your support to combat the relentless attacks from a right-wing bully that supported **over 100** pro-insurrection Republicans in the 2022 midterm elections in the wake of January 6.
This is the same group that took money from Republican billionaires and spent $5 million attacking me with baseless lies and racist tactics–even labeling me as a Trump supporter in kahoots with MTG in the hopes of keeping Black voters from showing up to vote.
Their decision to target me, and my brother Congressman Jamaal Bowman, specifically as we launch our re-election is a punch to the gut, but it’s not surprising. They know that I didn't run for Congress to be the face of the Israel-Palestine issue one way or another.
I ran to be a voice for the voiceless, to finally represent the Black, brown, poor and marginalized communities left behind by politicians in Washington who care more about helping billionaires and lobbyists than working class single parents like my mom. That’s the real reason they’re attacking me–their billionaire Republican donors want to keep progressive working class Black women who they’ll never be able to control.
The reason AIPAC targets me is simple: they fear anyone who doesn't conform to their extreme right-wing agenda.
Last year, when Democrats were rallying to maintain their majority, AIPAC went so far as to call my future colleagues and demand they distance themselves from me and join them in keeping the first Black Congresswoman to represent Pennsylvania from taking office. They looked at working class Black woman and the movement we’ve built fighting for environmental justice, workers rights, and reflective democracy as their “enemy” – even as AIPAC’s 100+ insurrectionist MAGA friends continue to harm Black, Jewish, Muslim, LGBTQ and marginalized communities with AIPAC’s stamp of approval and funding.
Their endorsement of these dangerous bigots, white supremacists, and antisemites further underscores their misplaced priorities and harmful influence.
Together, we can overcome these challenges and make a real difference in the lives of those who need it most.
Thank you for your unwavering support,
Summer Lee
