URGENT RESPONSE NEEDED:
Should Congress Ban Assault Weapons?

[link removed]

John, 29 years ago the United States banned assault weapons. And for 10 years, it saved countless lives, but then it ended thanks to the NRA’s deadly influence. Its end meant skyrocketing deaths caused by assault weapons and a nation living in fear of being gunned down.

Now, weapons that belong on the battlefield are being wielded in our communities, putting Americans at risk. Our citizens have been gunned down in schools, grocery stores, shopping centers, bars, and concerts – staples of everyday life, places we should be able to go without fear of being shot.

Yet, in a nation where the weapon of choice for mass shooters remains legal, fear is a constant.

Children shouldn't have to grow up in a country where they practice lockdown drills, hiding under their desks in case their school is next. Parents shouldn’t have to wonder if their child will be the next one gunned down. Worshippers shouldn't have to pass armored security on their way to prayer. Concert-goers shouldn’t have to check for exits in case bullets start raining down.

We shouldn't have to live in a country constantly bracing for the next tragedy, another mass shooting. That's why we're asking gun safety advocates to mark the 29th anniversary of the original Assault Weapons Ban with action and demand that we once again outlaw these dangerous firearms: Please, respond to our live survey before midnight to oppose the gun lobby and call on Washington to pass a new ban.
