John, my name is Carol Moseley Braun, and I was proud to be the first Black woman ever elected to the U.S. Senate.

As one of only two Black women ever elected to the Senate in our country's near 250-year history, I’ve long understood the importance of making sure everyone has a voice in our government.

That’s why I was outraged when Governor Newsom announced he would only appoint a Black woman to the U.S. Senate as a caretaker.

Black women deserve more than a token appointment. And they deserve a leader like Barbara who is a bold, progressive leader – advocating tirelessly for economic justice, racial equality, reproductive freedom and so much more.

That's why I'm personally asking you: Will you join me in supporting Barbara Lee by donating $5 to help her make history in California and build a progressive future that works for all of us?

Barbara Lee has never been afraid to do the right thing, even when it's the hard thing. She's been getting things done for families in California and across the country for decades – and I know she will bring that persistence to the Senate, where there are so many issues that have not yet been addressed.

It won't be easy – but I know Barbara has the experience and tenacity to win this race.

But as The New York Times reported, Barbara is facing an uphill battle against one of the biggest glass ceilings in American politics. However, with grassroots support from folks like you, she can overcome these hurdles and make history.
